Quick Answer
Send the truck's model year, make, model, engine, transmission and pickup or cab-and-chassis configuration first. Add the VIN through a private channel, current hardware, known ECM or tuning history, intended use, requested service and any Auto Agent equipment you already own. If a detail is unknown, write “unknown” instead of guessing. Never send an account password or payment information in a fitment request.
A complete message lets the seller identify the truck, understand its current state and price the correct device, file service and accessories without several rounds of email.
Vehicle Information Checklist
| Information | What to send | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Year, make and full model | Actual model year and full truck designation. | A build date or purchase year can point to the wrong controller generation. |
| Engine | Displacement and family, such as 6.7L Power Stroke or 6.6L LML. | Engine names that share displacement may use different ECMs. |
| Transmission | Verified transmission model or the VIN/build information needed to identify it. | TCM support and package choices can change between transmissions. |
| Chassis and work equipment | Pickup or cab-and-chassis, plus PTO or commercial equipment. | The same engine badge does not make those calibrations interchangeable. |
| VIN | Send privately through the established support channel. | Helps verify the original configuration and model-year details. |
| ECM/TCM history | Known replacement, unlock, dealer update or prior programming. | The installed controller may no longer match the truck's original record. |
| Current configuration | Installed engine, intake, exhaust, emissions and transmission hardware relevant to the request. | The file must be evaluated against the truck as it exists today. |
| Existing Auto Agent | Generation, serial information requested by support, cables and known account history. | Determines whether device-only hardware is unnecessary or accessories are missing. |
| Requested result | Monitoring, diagnostics, ECU profile, TCM service, SOTF or another specific function. | “Best tune” is not enough information to match a service. |
If the Truck Came With an Auto Agent
Say that at the top of the request. A device plugged into the OBD port proves that hardware is present; it does not prove that you have access to the original technician, files or support agreement.
Before placing an order, take screenshots of the vehicle details, device information and technician list shown in the app. Ask the previous owner for the original invoice or provider details if available. An empty technician list is a reason to investigate service access; it does not, by itself, identify the software currently installed.

A Useful Request Describes How the Truck Works
Example wording, not a fitment approval: “This is my daily driver and it tows an approximately 8,000-lb loaded travel trailer in the mountains several weekends a year. I want to understand the monitoring options and whether you offer a documented road-use calibration for my exact truck. Transmission and controller details are still unknown; please tell me what to send before you recommend a package.”
That gives the seller a better starting point than “I want the best tune.” If the truck has a warning light, unusual shifts or a recent repair, include that too. A purchase request should not assume that new software will fix an undiagnosed fault.
Questions That Prevent Surprise Charges
- What is the complete price, including separately required parts and controller work?
- What happens if my controller is unsupported after you review its identification?
- When does file preparation begin, and which cancellation or refund terms apply afterward?
- What would a later dealer update, hardware change or truck sale mean for this service?
- Who can help during my planned installation, and what are their support hours?
These are questions to obtain in writing, not promises about SPEtuner's current terms. Compare the reply with the selected product option before paying.
What a Useful Seller Reply Should Contain
- The vehicle configuration that was reviewed.
- Whether the quote is device only, service only or a complete bundle.
- The included device, cable, switch, plug and unlock work.
- Whether the service covers the ECM, TCM or both.
- How Single Tune or SOTF is delivered and controlled.
- The technician responsible for files and revisions.
- Separate estimates for hardware shipping and file delivery.
- The stated lawful-use or application documentation for the proposed configuration.
“Yes, it fits” is not a complete answer if it leaves the transmission, file service or required hardware unresolved. Ask for the missing line item once, then keep the reply with the order.
Protect Your Account and Vehicle Information
Send the VIN only through a private support channel. Do not post it in a blog comment or public social thread. Support may request an account email, device serial number or screenshots, but should not need your password. Never send payment card data in a fitment email.
After the Match Is Confirmed
- Compare the seller's written answer with the exact option selected in the cart.
- Save the product page, order confirmation and service terms.
- Wait for the correct profile and installation instructions before programming the vehicle.
- If the truck changes later, tell the technician before requesting or installing a revision.
Use the EZ LYNK compatibility guide to identify the platform. If the difference between a device and profile is still unclear, read how EZ LYNK devices, profiles and support work.

FAQ
Do I need the VIN to ask about fitment?
The VIN is often useful for resolving model-year and configuration questions. Send it privately, not in a public comment.
What if I do not know my transmission?
Mark it unknown and ask what VIN, build-label or service information is needed to identify it before choosing a transmission-specific option.
Can I buy tune-only if I already own an Auto Agent?
Often that is possible, but the provider must check the device, cable, account workflow and truck application first.
Does a used truck's Auto Agent include the previous owner's support?
Not automatically. Ask for the original provider and account history, then obtain a written answer about what can transfer.
Should I mention a dealer software update or replaced ECM?
Yes. Both can change controller identification or file requirements.
Is device shipping time the same as tune delivery time?
No. Hardware shipment and technician file delivery are separate schedules.
