L5P Duramax Tuning Instructions

READ EVERY STEP BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS TO YOUR TRUCK.

* YOU DO NOT NEED THE TDN APP. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW. *

🛑 CRITICAL STARTING CONDITIONS:

Start with all emissions equipment installed and functioning without any codes or error messages. Be sure your DEF level is not low. For 2017-2019 model years, you MUST make sure the soot levels are below 70% before proceeding.

Prerequisites

Do not begin this process until you have received your order.

You will need to install the VCM Suite BETA software. (Always verify you have the latest BETA version whenever you open the software, as it updates regularly). After installing the software, follow our guides below to get us the files we need to create your tune.

Important Notes

  • Power Supply: ALWAYS use a battery charger capable of supplying a STEADY 10 AMPs or more while flashing.
  • Software Operations: When opening the VCM software, it may open the last file used. Always close the file when opening VCM software (top left Folder icon).
  • System Requirements: The current VCM Suite Beta requires a certain version of .NET. If you get errors when working with the software, check your .NET version or update it from the HP Tuners Downloads section.
  • Emissions & DEF Warnings: If emissions were unplugged before tuning, you will likely get a "Service Emissions" message on the dash. If the DEF tank was low when you started, you will likely get a "Low DEF" light on the dash after tuning. To avoid this, make sure the DEF tank is at least 1/4 full.
  • Soot Level Requirement: On 17-19 model years, make sure the soot levels are below 70%. If soot levels are above 70%, you will need to do a forced regen before tuning.
