FAQs
Q: The H&S mini Maxx tuner install instructions list a fuse to be removed for the GM products that I can't locate. Is there another source?
A: The "fuse card" part is a typo that was printed on our first few batches of packaging. There is no fuse card, and no fuse needs to be pulled. You need to wire the power wire into a switched 12V fuse to power the tuner on and off with the ignition.
Locate your fuse box, then use a 12V test light or multimeter to measure DC voltage. Connect one end to a grounding point, and use the other end to probe the pins on the top of the fuses with the ignition on. Take note of which fuses have ~12V. Then turn the ignition off and check the fuses you noted down to find one that doesn't have power (check both sides). That will be our ignition source.
*Some may find it easier to remove the fuse and probe the contacts within the fuse box rather than leaving the fuse installed and probing the much smaller points on the top of the fuse.
Q: Tried updating it, but it still shows that the communication is being initialized.
A: Ensure the SD card is fully slotted into the device.
Tuner is stuck on "initializing communication" - Try the two methods below
Method #1
1) Disconnect the tuner from the OBD-II port and turn off the ignition.
2) Disconnect all battery cables.
3) Leaving the batteries disconnected, charge both batteries to full.
4) Re-connect the battery cables, install the H&S Mini Maxx tuner, and turn on the ignition.
5) Select Diagnostics and clear any codes.
6) Select Install Download and follow all of the prompts on the screen except turning off the ignition. Press Continue while the ignition is still on.
Method #2
1) Unplug your tuner cable from the OBD port that supplies power.
2) Slowly plug the cable in until the tuner beeps, ensuring only the two longest (power) pins make contact with the OBD port.
3) Once powered up, press the top-left button (menu) and scroll down to change the vehicle.
4) Plug in the tuner the rest of the way in an attempt to tune the vehicle.
Q: The programmer constantly loses connection at initial start-up, no cruise control, and flashes a low coolant level.
A: Please ensure that all cables and connections function properly and that nothing is loose. If you uninstall the device and the cruise control functions begin to work again, it sounds like the device isn't compatible with the vehicle's operating system.
Q: After installing Minimax on LML Duramax's 2012 GMC Sierra 3500HD car, I can't change the power level on the MiniMaxxV2 anymore, updated the firmware, but still can't adjust the power level. How do I change the power level?
A: If your car is a 2011-2016 Duramax, there is no SOTF. You can change the power level by going to the menu > install download > select the tuning level to load.
Q: After installing Mini Maxx on a 2015.5 Duramax, the fuel gauge bounces around, and the cruise control doesn’t work?
A: 2015s only support single-fuel tanks; a dual-fuel tank is not compatible with the Mini Maxx v2.
Q: I have a 2014 Ram 6.7. When tuned, it gives a code u12a4. We added coolant, and the coolant fault went away.
A: We do not commonly run into U12A4. I would advise having this diagnosed.
Q: Now we have DTC fault codes P051C, P04E2, P1478, and P1474. How do we clear these codes? I tried to clear them with the tuner, but the codes came back soon.
A: It sounds like the client's CCV has been deleted. This device does not support CCV deletes. I would advise having these DTCs diagnosed.
Q: The update link does not work for the tuner. I have tried several times, but it always gets stuck on ‘Downloading latest update’ with time remaining.
A: Regarding the updater, it sounds like it is freezing. Try another computer that has Windows 10/11.
Q: With the power cord hooked up to a 12-volt switch during installation, should the tuner remain on at all times, even if the truck is off?
A: It doesn't have to be on all the time.
Q: After installing the tune, I now have NO Cruise control, and the boost gauge always reads zero when it’s definitely building boost. How do I resolve this problem?
A: The boost gauge not working on LML Duramax's is a known issue, and has been for a while.
https://www.minimaxx.ca/known-errors
Regarding the cruise control, does the cruise work again when the device is uninstalled from the vehicle? If so, this device is conflictive with your cruise control system, or there is an issue with the cruise control system post-flash.
Q: If everything has been successfully updated, but when installing it on the truck, it says it's in engine recovery mode, what needs to be done to fix this?
A: Concerning Engine Recovery Mode.
The H&S mini maxx V2 will go into recovery from a failed tune. We don't know what happened as we were not there, but the only times we have seen this happen in-house are when the voltage dropped or a cable was unplugged during flashing.
Only the same tuner used on the same truck will get it out of recovery mode. Reinstalling the same tuner will put it back in stock, and then you can install it again to tune the truck.
If the tuner cannot get the truck out of recovery and it will not start, the dealer needs to flash the truck back to stock.
Q: If the Fleece CP3 conversion is installed and DEF has already been deleted, will these conditions cause any problems with the tuner installation?
A: The DEF already being deleted may cause issues with the device installation.
This is installed by flashing the device onto the vehicle first, followed by installing the emission hard parts.
A service message may occur, or a few DTCs.
The Fleece CP3 will be fine, as long as it doesn't require additional tuning to be done.
Q: If you use the tuner's tuning to increase horsepower and torque, you will not be able to use the HVAC controls on the dash. When the tuner is unplugged, it works fine, but when it is plugged in, it does not work. Can anything be done to change this?
A: Regarding the HVAC system, this isn't a common issue we run into. I would ensure that the Mini Maxx is wired in and does not affect any other electronic accessory.
Try out the latest update, If this persists, this device may be defective.

Q: After a year of having this tuner, my screen stopped coming on and just chirped or beeped. What could be the issue?
A: Something internally within the unit could have come undone/disconnected. If the screen had stopped powering up, attempt to do so through the USB port on the side through a PC or Laptop.
If it does not power up through the USB port, it is defective and will require replacement.
Q: The fault indicates a p2457 exhaust gas recirculation coolant performance issue. I used a probe removed from the exhaust section. What is the corrective action for the fault?
A: We do not commonly encounter this DTC. I would advise disconnecting the batteries for 10~ minutes. If the code persists, this sensor is most likely plugged in.
Q: Now, after the H&S mini maxx tuner installation, bank 1 injectors are not working at all and throw code P1291, injector high side short to ground or VBatt-Bank
Also, the P060A internal control module monitored performance. Then, it was returned to stock, and those codes didn't appear anymore.
reinstalled the tuner, and the codes are back. How do I deal with this?
A: If you returned the vehicle to stock, and these codes disappeared, the device is not compatible with your vehicle's software and or OS.
Q: Everything is working, but I am not getting some of the readouts, such as RPM, boost, etc. Do I need the unlock cable connected at all times or just during programming?
A: No, we rarely encounter this issue. Please reinstall the device and ensure all cables and connections within the OBDII port are working.
Q: I wanted to check if the tune you sell deletes the 2-crank ventilation sensor. I keep getting a check engine light, and I thought this kit would cancel it out. After the install and flash, two codes—p04db and p0868—popped up after 50 miles of driving.
A: The Mini Maxx device does not support CCV deletes, only CCV reroutes.P0868 relates to Transmission Fluid Pressure Low. I would advise having this checked out.\
Q: After doing the installation of all parts and H&S Mini Maxx Tune V2, when I plug the unit into the OBD, there is interference with my Bluetooth, direction compass, and volume on the radio. It also kicks my heated seats and steering wheel off after 5 seconds. If I unplug the unit, the issues disappear, and those items work as intended. The unit is wired into the fuse box, and all connections are secure with no issues. Are you looking for insight into the issue/resolution, or did I get a bad box/module causing interference?
A: The heated seats and steering wheel are due to the trim model your vehicle has; the Mini Maxx does not support those electronic accessories.
Q: The tuner is reading 241 percent and doesn't change and the mini max won't shut off until you unplug it. It reads 241 percent on the throttle all the time, and when hooked to the scanner, it reads 0 to 99, so it's not the truck, and it keeps showing an error code, which should be all deleted?
A: The throttle reading 241 is standard; this is due to the throttle valve being unplugged.
Q: When I started the process with the VT tuner, there was a question that asked, "Return to stock or shift on the fly?"I clicked "returned to stock." I have since done the complete delete. Can I go back to my tuner and click the shift on the fly option to access the tune?
A: Yes, you indeed can go back and select the SOTF option.
Q: What is the difference between the V1 and V2?
A: The V2 is a new product released in 2022; the V1 has been discontinued.
The V2 does not support emissions, you must remove the emissions.
The V2 added support for later model years (19 Ford, 21 RAM, 16 Duramax)
The V2 does not support custom tuning or overdrive trans tuning
The V2 does not have all the special functions of the V1
Part Numbers: V1 = 109003, V2 = 209003
Q: Why didn't my tuner ask about my emissions being removed?
A: The h&s mini maxx V2 does not support emissions, so it does not ask whether you have them installed.
Q: Do I need to remove my emissions when running the H&S Mini Maxx V2?
A: Yes, the DPF/DEF/SCR sections of the exhaust must be removed. All sensors in these pipes will need to be disconnected. It's best to leave them in the exhaust and disconnect them when removing them. Your EGR system can be left installed or removed. If you leave it installed, you need to disconnect the connectors.
Your throttle valve must be unplugged (or removed)
Q: How do I use the security bypass cable on my 2018+ RAM?
A: 2018+ RAMs require a bypass cable (#42215). You must use this bypass cable. This bypass cable comes with a replacement OBD Box and USB cable. Replace the OBD box that comes with the Mini Maxx with this bypass version with the red stripe. You will only use this red-striped OBD box on 18+ RAMs. Connect one end of the USB cable into the port on the side of the OBD box, and the other to the green connector behind the dash, into the 5th port down on the connector closest to the driver's seat. If the tuner freezes during installation, you likely have the cable plugged into the wrong port. Do not update the Mini Maxx with any files other than the ones on our website
Q: Why do I have Error 294?
A: Error 294 means you are attempting to install the tuner on an unsupported vehicle. You are likely trying to install it on a 10-12 RAM 4500-5500, which is not supported.
Q: Can the Mini Maxx V2 be unlocked?
A: No, the Mini Maxx V2 cannot be remotely unlocked.
Q: Can I use your update on the V1?
A: Do not use the H&S Mini Maxx V2 update on the H&S Mini Maxx V1; this will make your V1 inoperable.
We do not have any files for the H&S Mini Maxx V1.
Q: Does the Mini Maxx need to stay plugged in after I tune my truck?
A: The tuner does not need to stay plugged in. If you remove it, the tuner will default back to the "no power" tune level after a few drive cycles but will not remove the delete tuning, it will be like running in the "no power" tune level.
Q: Where do I wire the fuse tap?
A: You will need to find a fuse that gets switched ignition power (12V with the key in the ON position and 0V with the key OFF)
Q: Why does my tuner say "warm-up mode"?
A: Engine warmup mode is meant to limit power until temperatures are up to the operating range. This is controlled through the refueling parameters.
You can check and adjust these settings as you see fit. [Menu>Vehicle Setup>Defueling]
Q: While installing, it is set up to shift on the fly, but when switching between any and all of the tunes, it runs as if it is completely stock. There is no difference between stock, tow, performance, and extreme.
A: Please ensure there is no grease, and or water on the radio DlN, causing it to glitch out. If the radio DLIN is clean and debris-free, this device may be causing electronic interference with the radio.
Q: The tuner sometimes changes color from blue to red. What causes this?
A: This is a device display glitch. The device is fine, just the display's color will flip and invert.
Q: It was working great but unfortunately it stopped working. The tuner has a black screen and just beeps over and over again. Not sure what happened. My truck is still working and running fine.
A: I would try a new HDMI cable, check all cables and connections, and ensure nothing came undone or was loose during operation.
Q: While installing, it is set up to shift on the fly, but when going between any and all of the tunes, it runs as if it is completely stock. There is no difference between stock, tow, performance, and extreme.
A: Please perform the latest update.
If it persists, please ensure the device is properly connected to the vehicle.
Q: After installation, it shows “vin mismatch”, the software on the screen says 2.0.0.1, and I can't proceed to the next update.
A: The device may not connect to the vehicle as it is currently VIN-locked to a different vehicle.
It may be because the vehicle is currently locked to a different vehicle. If you are attempting to tune a different vehicle than the one the device was originally installed on, it will need to be fully uninstalled from the vehicle it is locked to.
Q: Check the power levels and notice no change with anything. I went to the settings and noticed it is reading my truck as a 2001 and it is a 2017. It displays the correct vinyl. When I uninstalled the tuner, only to have my engine light come on and not be able to reinstall it. Now, when trying to download the update, it is not working. The program tells me to insert the drive when it is plugged in. I went and bought a new card and card reader, and still had the same results. My car is a 2017 F350 6.7L Powerstroke. What is the proper solution to this?
A: The "2001" year may be a typo, as long as it's locked to your VIN, you are fine!
The updater will not recognize the SD card unless it's named "MINI MAXX." Please rename the SD card to that.
These 2017 Fords are not SOTF, you need to change the settings through the menu.
Menu > Install Download > Pick Tune Level to Load.
